REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS or MS in Geology or closely related
  • 7+ years relevant experience
  • Experience in and environmental soils & groundwater sampling, analysis, studies, & remediation
  • Experience with & working knowledge of applicable government regulations
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Solid communications skills
  • Ability to work successfully both in an office environment and in the field
  • Valid US driver license
  • Legal US residency
  • PG (professional geologist registration) is highly viewed
  • Experience in the private sector

    At Bank of the West we currently have an excellent opportunity in Walnut Creek, CA for an Environmental Risk Officer to be responsible for engagement, process management, and review of environmental due diligence in connection with secured commercial real estate loan transactions in support of the Bank's real estate lending function while minimizing the Bank's exposure to loss. You will interpret Bank policy to determine appropriate level of due diligence for new requests; process multiple service requests in a timely, accurate, and cost-effective manner; and determine if properties have significant issues posing a risk to the Bank and write environmental review memos to summarize and present findings. This position requires BA/BS in an area related to environmental science with over 5 years of experience in assessment and interpretation of environmental issues and a thorough knowledge of environmental assessments; soil/ground water, asbestos, lead based paint, and air quality investigations; and clean-up issues and applicable remedial techniques. Also requires the ability to process multiple service requests and manage multiple projects concurrently and excellent analytical, research, planning, presentation, project management, problem solving, and written/verbal communication skills.
